In the early 1990s, the Buteyko method spread beyond the borders of the USSR. Alexander Stalmatski, Dr Buteyko’s senior assistant began to teach the method in Australia. He was instrumental in establishing the Buteyko Institute of Breathing and Health (BIBH) in 1996. The BIBH is the international professional body representing the Buteyko Institute Method (BIM) and Buteyko practitioners. It is a non-profit organization committed to improving breath-related disorders through research, promotion and application of the Buteyko method. The BIBH has established standards and policies for teaching the method to individuals as well as training and accreditation of new practitioners. To visit the BIBH go to: http://www.buteyko.info/
